Simple Future Tense Examples

Simple future tense describes the action or events which has not happened yet but are expected to happen in the coming time, that is, in the future. To talk about the future action, 'shall/will' is used with the base form (V1) of the verb that is the plural form of the verb. Generally, 'shall' is used with 'I' and 'we' and 'will' is used with other subjects. However, 'will' is also used with 'I' and 'we' if there is a determination or certainty of the action, except in interrogative sentences. The examples of the simple future tense in all kinds of sentences as well as in other different ways are given below:

Examples of the simple future tense in affirmative sentences

Structure: Subject + shall/will + V1 (first form of verb) + other words

  • The birds will eat these grains in the morning.
  • My father will teach me how to drive a car next month.
  • We shall go to the picnic tomorrow by bus.
  • I shall be sixteen next Tuesday.
  • They will come back from their tour this evening.
  • I will do hard labor for the board examination.
  • We will fight till the end of the battle.

Examples of the simple future tense in negative sentences

Structure: Subject + shall/will + not + V1 + other words

  • The birds will not eat these grains in the morning.
  • My father will not teach me how to drive a car next month.
  • We shall not go to the picnic tomorrow by bus.
  • I shall not be sixteen next Tuesday.
  • They will not come back from their tour this evening.
  • I will not do hard labor for the board examination.
  • We will not fight till the end of the battle.

Structure: Shall/will + subject + V1 + other words

Examples of the simple future tense in 'going to' form

Structure: Subject + is/am/are + going to + V1 + other words

  • I am going to resign from the job next month.
  • Our city is going to be a smart city very soon.
  • Sohan is going to shift to Canada next year.
  • Let's go fast to the home; it is going to rain heavily.
  • The boat is full of water; it is going to sink.
  • I am going to start a new company.

Note: With 'going to' form is/am/are used with the first form (V1) of the verb. It expresses the action that will happen in the future.

Examples of the simple future tense in 'be about to' form

Structure: Subject + be (is/am/are) + about to + V1 + other words

  • Let's get on the train; it is about to depart.
  • Let's go fast; the meeting is about to begin.
  • The flight is about to take off.
  • He is about to leave home for the office.
  • The classes are about to start.

Note: It expresses the action that will happen immediately.

Example of simple future tense with 'to'

Structure: Subject + is/am/are + to + V1

  • I am to complete this novel soon.
  • He is to come here next Friday.
  • They are to go library tomorrow.
  • Karan is to take part in the painting competition.
  • Megha and Minakshi are to attend the cooking class from tomorrow.

Note: It expresses an action that will take place with certainty in the future.

Simple present tense is also used to express future time. Words like, as soon as, next week, tomorrow, tonight, shortly, etc., are used to show the future time. Some examples of this kind of sentence are given below:

  • The school opens next Tuesday.
  • I do send my documents as soon as possible.
  • The tournament starts in a few minutes.
  • When does the next bus leave for Delhi?
  • The movie starts at 3 pm and ends at 5:30 pm.
  • The party is next week.
  • The president of America visits Delhi tomorrow.

Present continuous tense is also used for expressing future time. Some examples of this kind of sentence are given below:

  • We are meeting the program coordinator tomorrow.
  • He is playing the final match on 4th April.
  • I am going to Kerala next week.
  • My best friend Rahul is arriving this evening.
  • They are taking their examination tomorrow.

  • I shall go to college tomorrow.
  • I will win the match.
  • Shall I win the match?
  • We will complete our project next week.
  • Shall we complete our project next week?
  • I think they will come back.
  • The result will be out on 22nd May.
  • I am going to buy a new car.
  • Look! The match is going to start.
  • Right now, he is busy; I will wait for him.
  • Look at the clouds; it is going to rain.
  • Perhaps he will find them there.
  • They are about to complete their homework.
  • The meeting starts at 10 am.
  • They fly to Paris tomorrow.
  • Just wait until I do come in a few minutes.
  • I believe you will get a first-class.
  • We will do it.
  • We will not do it.
  • Shall we do it?
  • Shall we not do it?
